In 1869, a one-armed Civil War veteran named John Wesley Powell launched a perilous thousand-mile expedition through the uncharted canyons of the Green and Colorado Rivers. Ten men in four boats left Green River, Wyoming on May 24th. Ninety-nine days later, six men emerged from the Grand Canyon, half-starved, battered, and exhausted. They had survived one of the most daring journeys in American history.
Drawing on Powell's poetic, emotionally powerful journals and stunning contemporary cinematography, LOST IN THE GRAND CANYON tells the story of the last great adventure in the unexplored West. In the deep, rock-walled canyons, Powell and his men witnessed indescribable beauty, battled terrifying rapids and suffered harrowing deprivation. Powell's inspiring account of the journey turned him into a national hero, but his visionary effort to control settlement of the West ended in a crushing defeat.
In his journal, Powell wrote "the canyons tell a story that I hear yet, and shall continue to hear." LOST IN THE GRAND CANYON brings this dramatic story back to life.
